They obvious like Zay and expect more out of him than just solid. Don't confuse your opinion of a guy with that of the front office. They didn't give him that kind of contract with the intention of turning around and drafting his replacement.

They made their investment in the WRs in FA and obviously feel settled at that position going into the season.

If some of the receivers struggle this season, then next draft a WR would be a realistic option in the top part of the draft, but it makes no sense this year.

People seem to think drafting a WR in the top part of the draft is an automatic improvement, but that is just a fallacy. There will be multiple receivers taken early this year that won't pan out.

MJJ has 1 maybe 2 good years left. Shenault is an enigma, he has the talent & athletic traits but hasn't developed at all really. Laquon Treadwell caught the ball which stood out amidst the sea of drops that was our WR corps. Agnew is an explosive player but is best for the return game and packages to get him the ball in space or take the top off a defense. There was nothing special about our WR's last year and I wouldn't feel confident in any of them, it's such a low bar to clear. Drafting a receiver early would've almost guaranteed improved play at the position bc it was very difficult for our receivers to play any worse lol.

They only gave Zay Jones 8 million per year. That's not exactly a big spend, it's less than half of what Kirk got; I think Zay was signed for vet presence, blocking, height as a redzone threat and he appears to have solid hands. "Don't confuse your opinion of a guy with the front offices" .... Weird flex but Ok?!? I like Zay Jones as much as the next guy but I don't think this Front Office is exactly filled with Savants that know far more than everybody else. I'll believe it when i see it, bc despite a 2nd round pedigree he's had 350+ yards exactly ONCE; what do Baalke and co. see that myself and other fans don't???? I hope he has 1k and 10 TD's but there's just not a precedent for that based on his past play.

I think the idea was to put veterans in the room to give a steady presence to Lawrence that actually catch the ball; and have experience to share with Laviska and the younger guys. They got a lot of good workers/grinders who will set the tone for the receiver room and putting the work in. Once Trevor gets experience I think they'll get younger players to develop along with him. The value wasn't there in this draft so they filled other holes and added talent on the Line and the D.
