You have to maximize the time you have when you have a gifted young QB. Surround them with elite skill players. As good as the Jags defense may be this year, they’ll need to score points to keep up with the Bengals, Chiefs, Bills, Chargers, Broncos etc.

I really like what the Jets have done surrounding Wilson with offensive talent. I wish the Jags had taken Elijah Moore instead of ETN but here we are. Hopefully Pederson is cooking up something good.

Campbell is a zone-specific CB, or at least thusfar that's what he's proven to be. If that is his ceiling, I would suggest that you can find similar capability in the darft. He's also an R2 pick, so any deal he gets will be done the same year we're on TLaw's 5th year option, which might be his best chance of getting a big payday from us.

Lloyd, Walker and Muma will have the next 4-5 years to assert themselves as the identity of this D. We're likely not going to renew all 3, especially if TLaw does warrant a megadeal. That's just the reality of football. LB tend not to be excessively expensive tags, which may benefit us, but eventually we are likely going to have to cut bait with or or two of this year's top picks in exchange for a franchise QB deal.

Like you said, over the next two years we'll likely begin replacing our pricey FA with younger guys. I like the overlap/cyclical replacement schedule that is being built. It will allow for youth and veterans to keep the window of opportunity open longer than if say, we darfted 3 WR this year, rolled with whatever D we could either sign in FA or carry from last season, and faced the prospect of paying TLaw a megadeal and immediately having to decide the fate of the remainder of the passing game in the same breath. I foresee the team reevaluating Kirk and Jones within the next two years, darfting someone to replace the one most underperforming in comparison to their price tag, and then repeating that step again the year after. If we're lucky, at least one proves to be a bargain; if not, we have the luxury of taking guys where they fit, rather than desperately swinging to fill a vacuum, as we saw with Green Bay this darft.

I guess I don't see our approach as dire as you might.
