I don't think Bortles was the sports writers' consensus pick for us at the time, so that's not hind sight. What about Blaine Gabbert? I don't think he was a consensus top pick either. 

I'm just disagreeing with your premise. I don't think the Jags' reputation is for going along with sports writer and making safe picks overall.

The funny part about Gabbert is he actually "slid to 10" and we traded up for him. Mayock and a bunch of other mock "experts" had him as 1a 1b with Cam Newton coming out. Which in hindsight now, is absolutely crazy even if I think Newton is largely overrated.
