Do you think Jimmy Smith will go to the Hall of Fame?

Jimmy's off the field issues and playing in a small market will obviously hurt his chances but I think he will ultimately get in on the basis of his stats.

Jimmy was a really good player for us.  I have a lot of good memories and enjoyed watching him play the game.

Hall of Fame enshrines exceptional figures in the sport of professional football, including players, coaches, franchise owners, and front-office personnel, almost all of whom made their primary contributions to the game in the National Football League.  It is not just stats.

Bo is being inducted this year. He was exceptional when he played, there have not been many tackles like him. The shortness of his career was the only negative. I have to believe that Tony's recent broadcasting career has helped him.

Is Jimmy exceptional ? Not good, not great, exceptional.  It is not what we think, it is how the process and people running it think.  He could get in but it is a long shot as this string has named more than a few receivers that have similar career stats.

Well, a couple of things. When I say "stats", I mean his on-field performance vs what was going on off the field.

Also, Jimmy was much more than a really good player. He was an exceptional and elite NFL receiver during his career. There was a four or five year span where a case could be made that he was one of the most dynamic receivers in football. If his playing time hadn't been abbreviated on the front end (due to his medical and injury issues) and the backend (due to his drug issue), he might be in the top 10 players at his position of all time.

I dunno if he'll really get in, he faces an uphill battle because of the market he played in, his off the field issues and the fact that stats for receivers are getting more and more inflated as time goes by. I suspect he will though eventually and likely Fred Taylor too although they'll both face obstacles.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.
