Actual viewership is down signifigantly the last 20+ years for the World Series.

Aside from the Yankees/9-11 in 2001 and the Red Sox "Reverse the Curse" in 2004, the norm now is half of what it was in the 80's and early 90's. Some of these World Series are averaging a third of the viewership you used to get.
