Back when i was a lawn jockey we started early like mowing by 8 am, we ended early usually by 3.  It helped it was all beaches where usually in the summer the rain doesnt hit until after 3.  Winters were a bresze were usually only mowing once every two weeks.  Made up for the knucke buster pace of summer.  Customers pay same price in winter and summer.

Really lawn jockeying here was only a pain from mid may thru sept.

Sounds like we did things very similar.  I can’t wait for November to hit!  All of our accounts are contract so, like you, we make the same money.  Crew included! (They’re  all salary).  We start earlier and end later though.  Not enough man power to get done before 300 anymore.  So we work a little longer than we really want.  But I saw a guy, “competitor” if you call it that roll onto the gas station around 815pm with truck/trailer getting beer.  I’m glad we’re not him.  Through the years, I’ve found July through September were the worst parts.  But I do remember the days when late may and June sucked.  

What made you get out of it?  My biggest “competitor” used to be a Dr (believe it or not). Chose lawns over treating eyes.  As the legend goes, he realized he could Make more doing this.  And he has 700 accounts, last I checked.  So I believe it! Lol.
