I recently replaced the ignition coils in my volvo.  They were about 80$ each.  A similar American car might be $30-50 each. Not all parts will be THAT much more - but some will. 

 

(One of the reasons I chose my car is that it's one of the few out there that combine a ballsy turbo, AWD and a 6 speed manual. I knew that repairs would be more - but try finding a car with all three  of those for less than $13K and low miles.  A'int gonna happen.)
