Pederson should really consider switching our run and pass ratio in favor of the running game.

This team is not a PASS first team because we don't have the QB for it. We need to kill other teams by running the ball and maybe limiting Trevors chances of making stupid mistakes like throwing picks or taking sacks. 

Even the last drive that led to the TD was set up by the run.

The faster Pederson realizes this is the better.

All the short pass completions are quite encouraging. It means that TL wasn’t firing the ball in like a rocket and making it difficult to catch.  Only one incompletion for a short pass (<15 yards).

Discouraging is that deep balls (15+ yards) were only tried 3 times (14% of attempts).  I know the run game was successful, but that sort of ratio will see JAX increasingly facing stacked boxes.  Until the deep ball forces opponents to play more honestly, they will not need to fear the long ball.  Particularly if they feel they can score a reasonable amount in return.


But you have to start somewhere and I think it is wise for Pederson to pursue a ‘die slowly’ plan that will keep you in a game rather than try to create a more balanced passing attack which we have seen is not reliable.  If JAX settles too predictably into a run or short pass only scheme, then they will be far too easy to keep in check as the season progresses.  Still, you have to make completions to have an offence so this is a start.  If TL can consistently deliver this performance then he can start adding to it in the second half.  We’ll see if that happens.


As to people complaining that TL critics are expecting him to do everything… this is the NFL right?  90% or more of a team’s success rests solely on the QB’s shoulders.  Ask Barry Sanders or Walter Payton about that.  Metcalf may have some ideas.  At the top level the QB is the man.  His performance sets the ceiling for the team’s performance.  That’s how it is and why they get paid all the biggest bucks.  Facts.
