But my point is that cannot be the expectation of any rookie QB anymore. So you are basically saying no QB can be drafted No. 1, and that doesn't work in today's NFL environment.

That has never been the expectation of rookie QBs. It's barely an expectation that they immediately start and many coaches would really like them to sit, but there's just too much external pressure to get them on the field. The most recent and most successful illustration of waiting is Patrick Mahomes, but people don't want to follow Andy Reid's plan because it clearly didn't work.
