Robinson to the Jets
|
It’s ok to disagree with a move the team makes. Some of you are quick to write this off and go into apologist for the front office mode.
The bottom line is JRob was never the fastest, quickest or strongest running back, but dude could [BLEEP] play football. That in and of itself is not common and certainly unlikely to find that in the 5th or 6th round. My favorite thing about him is I watched multiple runs of his where it didn’t necessarily look like he shimmied much but the defender getting ready to lunge at him for the tackle would so often take a bad angle and miss. He was never the product of an excellent line. He made plays. HE made them. We struck gold in him as an UDFA. He took that opportunity and played his [BLEEP] off for this team, city and fan base. He put up with the [BLEEP] last year and never complained publicly. Never was a malcontent. Unfortunately he partially tore his Achilles yet rehabbed remarkably fast and well and was a huge reason the two wins we had this year so far got out of hand in our favor. Dude is not hobbled. I don’t care what the short yardage stats say. Use your eyes and your head and quit jumping to conclusions on one stat. Happens all the time on here with different players. JRob had a bunch of clock killing carries late in those blowout wins too. That’s not the type of guy you trade away, especially for a 5th rounder. If you don’t show loyalty to the guys playing their [BLEEP] off for you and still young as JRob is, don’t be surprised when guys on the roster don’t show any loyalty back when free agency comes and don’t be surprised if your best players pull a Jalen and force their way out. I still like Doug and I don’t want him gone, but the best coaches tweak their scheme to fit their talent. Otherwise you’ll always be chasing pieces to fit your scheme in this league through regular roster attrition from year to year. I would have let him play out the year here and made a decision in the off-season versus receiving a 5th now. I’m not suggesting we could have gotten much more given the circumstances, I just value his service even what little might have been left of it more than a 5th round pick. |
