Most often the defense fails when we are UP in the fourth quarter, not down.

And my impression is that we are leaving our CBs one on one in that situation, and they are repeatedly getting burned deep.

Trying to pin this on one person or even one unit is counterproductive. It was like this a few seasons back - whenever one part of the team did its job, the other failed. You could have a good offensive game or a good defensive game, but seemingly never a complete game. People complain that Trevor has never put together a game-winning drive from behind, but actually he's done it twice this season; and both times the defence has suddenly turned around and given up a touchdown and left him in a position where he needs to do it all again, but without enough time (which he's promptly failed to do...) But there are plenty of times where the offence could have scored to put a game out of reach (or closer to out of reach) and they've failed to do so even with excellent field position. First and goal just outside their endzone should be a no-brainer TD, especially with how the running game was going. That INT by Trevor was both unforgivable and unnecessary.

Progress counts for something - this team hasn't been blown out once this season. There have been no 'garbage time' yards or scores. But they haven't been able to win those close games, and they haven't been able to prevent games from turning close when they should have been a rout. "Snatching defeat from the slavering jaws of victory" seems to be the motto of this team right now.

And I'm saying it doesn't matter what happened to get to that point it's all moot....7 game's with the lead....a chance to win regardless of how many points were left on the field....the defense hasn't been doing their job at the end of the game when it matters...we win 3 of those games just 3 and we're tied for the division....I blame Trevor for the mistakes when he makes mistakes... but I don't completely ignore other things that happened like the defense failing... and blame everything on Trevor like some people on here do.... We're not going to put up 50 points a game... Regardless of what happened the offense has put us in a position to win late in the 4th quarter and the defense has blown it....

... followed by the offense having a chance to win the game and blowing it.
