this move allows us not to pull the trigger on a running back in the draft, but at the same time if a back falls that we really like then we can still get him playing time.  win win signing.

 

like others have mentioned, this signing reminds me of our own MJD or turner.  guys who backed up great runnings back and went on to a feature role.  was dave on the staff in atlanta when they signed turner? (it was 2008, when they drafted their franchise QB with the third overall pick. hmmmm - plus dave was on the staff) 

 

a lot is made of the 'seahawk like moves' made, but this is a VERY falcon like move made.  the parallels are clear.

 

 

turner had ~1200 yards and 6 touchdowns before becoming a feature back.  gerhart has 1300 yards and 5 touchdowns.  (both in 4 years behind a future HOF back).
