I read this article as well.  Regardless of one's stance on the 2020 election, this sort of behaviour may end up turning Trump into the Republican version of Hillary Clinton, meaning that he's not going to know when to lay low and work behind the scenes for the good of his party (assuming you considered Trump a 'Republican' to begin with).  However, the above comment by p_rushing makes some sense as well, and that this was a trial balloon to out RINO's.  And of course, we can never rule out the ego of the man, which is probably a huge factor here.  In any case, the nickname was a stretch, and it didn't land, IMO.
