Even if he knew in his heart of hearts he was gonna go for it, giving them the chance to claim the credit goes a long way to boosting morale.

He's been around players and has learned about motivating them for a long time now. 

Regardless of how convinced he was or wasn't about going for two - he undoubtedly heard players wanting to go for it on the sideline and steered the credit their way.

He knows what he is doing.
