Is there a person alive who thinks OJ Simpson DIDN'T do it?!, some 27 or so years after the fact a jury found him not guilty?

If you are publicly alleged to have committed a crime, public scrutiny will persist, even if you are acquitted.
A trial isn't even necessaru for people to persist in peddling false and unsubstantiated allegations.

Conservatives have accused the Clintons of all kinds of scandals dating back to the 90s.  Aside from lying in front of Congress to hide the fact he had an affair, were the Clintons found guilty of any of the scandals for which they were accused?  Obama was accused of being Muslim (Oh the horror!  Constitution, anyone?) He was accused of using Operation Jade Helm to use the government of invading the American Southwest.  He was accused of setting up FEMA camps to intern Americans.


You think THIS guy and many others like him got the presumption of innocence?  You think anyone cared about the facts here before or after the lynching?

Sadly, suspiscions tend to linger in the aftermath of public allegations of wrongdoing.  It comes with the territory of being publicly accused.

It's not, by any stretch, a recent phenomenon.  It's not a form of "cancel culture."

You are correct, it's certainly been around for millenia. Nothing new under the sun. You can even find examples throughout much of ancient literature. I think today it's more a temporary form of cancel culture. As time passes, and depending on the perceived or actual discretion, the public tends to forgive and forget, or just becomes apathetic, especially if there is any attempt at positive change by the accused, At that point, there is a certain amount of uncancelling. People still seem to love a redemption story, if it's genuine.
