We are in such Cap Space Hell that we are gonna have to let go of really good team-mates that have helped us get where we are.

Offensively we may see the loss of Marvin Jones Jr and Jamal Agnew.  Shatley has money that we could save on.  On top of that Jawan Taylor, our RT, is due this off-season.  And, by football gods, the dude is gonna have to get paid or we lose him.

And if that wasn't bad, our defense has players we really should be brining back but could be released to save on cap space as well.  Baalke made a mess of our salary cap.  And it could potentially derail our success next year.  Smoot is up as a FA.  Wingard is a FA, Jenkins (I know some people for whatever reason think he's expendable...  HE IS NOT) is a potential cap casualty.  We could get rid of Roberston-Harris, but the dude just proved he could be a playmaker.

All I'm saying is that the way our salary cap has been managed has resulted in these Jaguars, who clearly look like they are up and coming, may lose some very key players that have made us look like we're coming up.  This offseason may be one that really could determine whether we are Super Bowl contenders or just Playoff contenders...

The good news is we don't exactly have a lot of high end talent that we need to worry about losing because other teams are trying to shower them with money this off season. Maybe Taylor, but other than him everyone else can either be signed to a low end contract (guys like Wingard), or be extended to reduce their number if the team wants to keep them (guys like Agnew).

I hope you're right.

A guy like Marvin Jones Jr...  Dude balled for us.  And yeah, he's older and we're gonna have to let him go.  But I hate that we have to.  You're right that we don't have high end talent (at least not anything that's recognized nationaly).  But that doesn't mean there aren't players we have that mean a helluva lot to our team's makeup.  I just hope that the front office doesn't think that some of the soul of this team are expendable.  Agnew on the offense/ST and Wingard on the defence/ST are not expendable.  They should be given 2 year deals and let them play out this run.

Once again, good reason why you build through the darft. Many of the losses listed are average players that shouldn't be significant tasks to replace or improve. Two years ago, we had a nearly empty roster talent-wise and a big chunk of available space. I don't fault them for spending, but especially early on we saw little yield from our investments.

Poor darfting leading up to Baalke is just as big a reason why we're in this hole (capwise) as any failure fully attributable to TB. Chiasson should be a foundational piece. Henderson should be locking down the side opposite Campbell. If Allen hit, we'd have a monster playing for pennies on his fifth-year option. Instead, one will be getting reps on kick coverage, one is playing out his rookie deal on another team, and the other is essentially on a prove-it deal to convince us not to replace him. That will cripple any team looking to start fresh.

The cap hits and lack of cap mean we're gonna have to get creative to keep guys around or pursue improvement in their stead. It's not entirely the fault of TB, but he's not free of blame, either. Unfortunately, I think that the scenario we are in (established coach, QB, no cap) makes the job less appealing for any up and coming GM that wants to make a name for themselves. We'd probably be doing more harm than good giving TB the ax at this point in the build.

This is a great topic we'll have to discuss in the off-season....
