getting hot doesn't happen by accident

It goes without saying that the team has to have a baseline of ability that allows it to get into the playoffs.

Vic was fond of the gospel of maximizing the number of opportunities over attempting to maximize for just one opportunity. In that regard I think he's right. It's better to be a good team that always makes the playoffs and keeps a clean cap than to be like the Rams.

Preaching basic roster sustainability is not the same as what I quoted and commented on.
