Vic was fond of the gospel of maximizing the number of opportunities over attempting to maximize for just one opportunity. In that regard I think he's right. It's better to be a good team that always makes the playoffs and keeps a clean cap than to be like the Rams.

Preaching basic roster sustainability is not the same as what I quoted and commented on.

The irony of Vic is he undervalued players while also claiming players are what matter. He would say players not plays, or dime a dozen about receivers, then turn around and suggest the Jaguars should trade the rights to Trevor away for a bunch of draft picks rather than taking him.

Trevor will be the guy holding the window open for the Jaguars over the next 15 years. Gotta take an elite QB when he's staring you in the face. Without one a team won't be able to sustain winning over the long term.
