According to google the average NFL ref makes about 200k/year. I could absolutely see some betting bookie paying them off to make some bad calls.

Money rules everything. Like when Morten Andersen missed in ‘96. Like when LeBron James got beat by Dallas his first year in Miami. When Strahan got his sack against Favre. 

I don’t think it’s rigged but it’s been proven that athletes and refs have played poorly or made calls to effect the game.
