when you fail in the darft, you spend in FA trying to right your wrong. I wonder how our darfts went over that span of time?
Sure the cap goes up, but spending in FA is more a sign that you're not doing well in growing your own, and usually that comes at a premium.
Had we darfted anyone worth keeping (or had a team that was desirable for talent to want to stay and build), FA spending would be an afterthought. We didn't spend just because the cap was going up. We were spending because we sucked at loud at building from the ground up.

I have no issue with spending money in free agency, I just don't see why you give a fully guranteed contract to a guy who might not even make the team once we draft a couple dbs. I'm fine with paying the big $ to guys like Kirk/Zay Jones/Scherf etc because they actually provide production to the team, Tre Herndon is a guy who loses you games. 

That was not my point, I was saying that it being a "record breaking" amount of money spent in free agency is a redundant stat, i'd imagine some team this season has already spent more than we did last year and if not that "record" will be broken next season because that's just how it goes when the money you're allowed to spend gets increased annually. Last year when we "broke the record" for money spent in free agency, the previous record was set in 2021 by the Pats.. the offseason prior. And guess what, that record broke a record from the year prior.. and so on.

The point about your point was that the record breaking spending was a symptom of our failure to grow our own, not that the league gave us a blank check. The cap went up this past season, and even after we wiggled around to create cap, we didn't spend hardly any in free agency outside of our own guys that have either been drafted, signed, and developed.

Had we had anyone worth keeping that "record breaking FA" number wouldn't have been as inflated as it was.
