They absolutely shouldn't allow crap food to be bought on SNAP cards or allow SNAP cards to be used in convenience stores. I see people with carts of soda and junk food mixed in with frozen pizzas and other crap food and they buy it all with a SNAP card. I guess the Nutrition part of that acronym is lost on people. They should still be called food stamps or food card because what is being bought certainly isn't nutritional.

You can't sell fruit. You can sell junk food other places.

Saw someone that in states with high bottle fees, the junkies will use the benefits to buy cases of water and then dump them out and return the bottles immediately.

It's a vicious cycle.  Very hard to make money selling fresh fruits and vegetables with short shelf lives.  Very easy to lose it.  Kids grow up poor not eating them, and as adults they don't desire them because they're not accustomed to them.

The WIC program was supposed to be like food stamps but healthier. And it does steer poor people in one particular stage of life to healthier breakfast ceareal, at least. I could dream up a program that would subsidize fresh fruits and vegetables for the poor, but no powerful lobbyist would push that through, because there are so many small and regional competing growers and packers and too many poor people would say "thanks but no thanks"
