In 2008 the Jaguars drafted Derrick Harvey and signed him to a 5 year contract. He was cut after his 3rd season. This is just 1 example of how contracts don’t mean you will make the team.

Harvey's contract had $17m guaranteed and it was already paid out before he was cut. He made $18m as a Jaguar. They didn't cut him with a bunch of money owed still as far as guarantees.

Chaisson will only turn 24 years old on July 25th. We are weak at Pass Rush, so it'd be incredibly stupid to cut a young Pass Rusher, have to eat $2m in dead cap space and still pay him to not be on the roster.

Maybe Chaisson turns the corner this year, or maybe he doesn't, but it'd be dumb to make a weak position group even weaker, all while paying somebody who isn't here. You let him play out his final contract year and see what happens.
