He got traded to a new team, got paid more money, and won a Super Bowl championship. Jamarcus Russell sat out training camp and got himself a fat paycheck. It worked out for him. I could go on for days about how sitting out helps players and there are cases where it hurts players.

Neither player sat out a year so you missed my point completely.  However, Ramsey was dealing with a vastly different Management, coaches and team direction than Engram so I can't see how you can even compare that. Second, Russel holding most likely contributed to his flaming out and having a what 3 year career? It is odd that after he was cut no other team gave him a chance. Bottom line any deal has to work for both sides, not just one.

Engram won’t sit out for the season as in not being on the team BUT…he could miss time in camp due to stalled negotiations. Which could lead to distractions, and lack of production on the field. It could upset the flow of the offense and the timing of certain plays, which could lead to Lawrence being less efficient. It could lead to the offense being less explosive. It could upset other players.

If he plays under the tag and doesn't put in the work, play as a good teammate, pouts, does poorly etc. it will reflect on his future opportunities.  People may not like that but it is what it is.

It could lead to him telling his agent he wants out. It could lead to him pulling a Ramsey with a mysterious back  injury which means he will still get paid without having to play. This is for the guys that aren’t grasping what I’m trying to say - It could mess up the team chemistry and Engram could be with the team on the sideline but not being in the huddle and playing as the team’s starting Tight End. He could loaf in practice or tell the trainers that he is having knee pain etc.

The franchise tag is black and white, but the scenarios that occur after that, are not. To everyone saying “ he can’t sit out, he won’t benefit from that, it will only hurt him, etc etc etc” please read the above: this isn’t a game we stick in our consoles and the game does what we tell it to do. Also…go to YouTube and type in Brandon Marshall kicks ball in practice. Just because a player is on the field does not mean he is playing at a high level.

After Monday sometime (deadline) there are no more negotiations till after the season for a long term deal. (hence the word deadline) He plays or doesn't under the tag.

If a human being feels like he isn’t being treated fair, then it could affect that human being. And there are more ways to skin a cat than just 1. Engram will make sure he doesn’t lose money, but he will also ensure that he can make money in the future by not risking his health for a team that doesn’t secure his financial future.

Or Lawrence might pull out 10 million dollars out of his account and give it to Engram and everyone is happy. ?
I'll not comment on the above remark as I think more of you as a poster to do so.
With that said, here’s a look at what Engram accomplished in his first season as a Jaguar.

Great stats ... I agree Engram reset the tight end bar for Jacksonville.  No one denies that. It is the reason he has been offered the rumored 12.5 mill x 4 years (50 million) with about a bit less than half guaranteed.  If this deal does not secure him and his families future no deal will. It has been said they are about 2 mill apart. that would mean he is wanting 14.5 millx4 years.

Kelce earns 14.3 mill a year.  Kelce catches about 100 passes, gains 1000-1300 yds, scores 8-12 tds  and produces 20-29 plays over 20 yards a year.
He has done this for many years.

Evan before coming to the Jags and Doug's system was a 50 catch, 600yds, 3 td guy.  Last year (his best) was 75 catches, 766 yds, 4 tds, and produced 11 plays over 20 yards.  Despite Evan producing about 60% or less(one year) of what Kelce has for many years the Jags offered about 88% of what Kelce's contract value is.

Could he on the open market get a bit more? Perhaps, but that is not a sure thing based on what tight ends have been signing for recently. The Jags want him here and have a fair offer on the table. His teammates know this too.  All communication between both sides have been respectful.and he says he wants to be here. Balls in his court. We will know by Tuesday.

I like Evan as his skill set fit really well with how Doug uses tight ends. He seems to be a good guy too.

A new broom always sweeps clean.
