We all agree Herndon can be upgraded, but he provides experience and depth at the very least. He's only on a 1 year deal. It's not the end of the world and you definitely don't dump somebody until you have a replacement and we didn't have a replacement at the time. The amount wasn't my issue, the fully guranteed contract to a player who shouldn't be rewarded for costing us games was. Give him that same contract with no guranteed money, showing both him and the fans that being a bum isn't acceptable would have been a better move. 

The fact that he was given a fully guranteed contract regardless of the amount tells me that they view him as the starting nickel back this year which is concerning to me because anyone with eyes could see how horrible he was last year.

And I disagree, he dosen't provide much of anything outside of a free 40+ yard pass completion for opposing teams in the 4th quarter.

Maybe, just maybe, the full guarantee should indicate something to you that you're not willing to accept:

- the team (or FO, if you will) understands what they have in him
- the team believes he's not likely to get beat out of a spot on the 53 by any of the other dudes we currently employ, or consider employing 
- the team isn't as worried about writing off a couple mill if their gamble doesn't pan out
- Herndon has incriminating photos or documents and this is the payoff to keep him quiet.

I kinda have my doubts about that last one too, but YMMV.
