You can put a number of things on last year being year one in that defensive system and the system being undefined and amorphous as the season progressed.
 It was Caldwell's first time in the role and he altered strategy quite a bit trying to find something. Given all of that newness and unsettled identity in coverage style, I'm not surprised he didn't attempt to make Campbell follow top receivers. But I also get the frustration it provoked. 

Will be interesting to see if that changes this year at all. 

I think we are going to see two different guys play the nickel according to package and the personnel we are facing. 
Maybe even three. And I doubt any of them are Tyson Campbell. 

Any formation they moved them into last year, they had 5 DBs out there a lot, and only 3 of 'em could cover well. So there would be a vulnerability elsewhere if you let Williams or Campbell travel.
