Sure 

If slavery and 160-some-odd years of civil rights oppression never happened, it would make a point. 
But that [BLEEP] happened and it's not yet distant in our rear view mirror. 

Maybe when we are far enough removed from the recent history 'black pride" and "white pride" won't have such disparate meanings. But for now - one is a pride stemming from a legacy of oppression. One is a pride inexorably linked to the legacy of the oppressors.

WTH? 

I don't get the whole pride thing in general. I didn't ask to be born a white female and I'm not proud to be white or a female. I'm not proud to be heterosexual or anything else. They're just who I am. I didn't do anything to achieve this. They're not an accomplishment they're just who I am. 

If I'm proud of anything it's goals I've reached in life and they have nothing to do with my race, my sex, or anything else of the kind. 

I know there are plenty of folks to do take pride in these things and more power to them I suppose, but I just don't get it.
