I want one of two things in a backup QB.

Either a young lion that can be turned into a draft pick of a QB desperate team, or a vet that was a decent starter that had his team decide they needed to go in a new direction. The former is guys like Rourke or minshew, the latter is guys like  Hasselbeck.

Beathard is a guy that never had starter ability and who would lose every game if we had to have him start for us, and that's why he's not worth paying as a backup, you can't win with guys like him.

So you don’t value experience unless the guy’s a past starter. That can work but guys in that position usually aren’t much better than career backups.

I’m confident Brethard could win games in a pinch for us with the talent on this team. Rourke is a CFL guy who hasn’t proven anything and I’d be a lot more doubtful of our chances in an important game with him behind center.
