Agreed. I however, I can make the argument that 7th receiver in some ways if a big body guy is little more than a 4th receiving TE?

Having your depth wideout big enough to be a hybrid in a pinch does allow some flexibility that way - especially when you carry only 3 TE on the 53. 

The DB room has wiggle space in the form of Antonio Johnson as a fifth Safety. Either he or Thomas could shifted down to PS. (I suspect they still prefer Thomas on ST for now - he was very good there last season) 
 
Over at CB I imagine the bottom 3 or 4 guys are all possibilities to be somewhat expendable depending on who is performing/underperforming in games or practice. 

It will be interesting to see exactly what the depth looks like after the bye-week and wether or not some young players rise, stay put, or fall off the 53. 

Anyway - if Cooks stays on the 53 all year - it may give us some interesting tea leaves to read way too far into.
