Older miatas are some pretty great deals.  If you can get over the stigma, or hot rod it to make it seem like it has more testosterone, you'll be driving a fun, cheap, low maintenance vehicle for a long time.  Your girl probably won't mind being seen in it, either.

 

Since you guys HAVE to go new, check out the Scion FR-S/Subaru FR-Z.  200 HP, great on gas, looks like a Triumph GT6 - without the 70s British car reliability issues.

 

And I like the Genesis's backside, thank you very much.
