Freaks are going to freak regardless. The Democratic party's elected leaders will do a better job of ignoring and marginalizing their freaks if the Republican party does a better job of marginalizing their freak.  But that won't happen.  The dude won't shut up and his lemmings won't stop following him.  He just needs to die.
