Why? Dudes under contract for 2 more years, the team doesn't have to give him a contract. Offer him what he's actually worth, if it's not enough then that's ok tell him oh if you think you are worth more go prove it. You have 2 years to do so. Seems pretty logical to me.

Yep, then you'll pay him more the next year or the year after that. You're going to pay market rate for a top QB in whatever year you sign him. You're not going to lowball him.
