When you improve your talent, you get better potential. When you get better then you can coach players to perform more than a over-simplified package.

 

If I am a qualified coach, why would I want less that the most talented player(s) to coach? If I am an incompetent, highly inexperienced coach, I seek players dumber than I am because a over-simplified scheme is all that I can comprehend. A incompetent coach seeks players below his own coaching ability.

 

When you see a team draft untalented players it directly relates to their incompetent coaches.

If you're saying we should draft players without any concern for the scheme we're trying to run, then you are very wrong.  I've heard a lot of commentators say that Dallas is a prime example of drafting talented players without concern for whether they fit the scheme.   You wind up with 13 pro bowlers and an 8-8 record.  

 

The best teams try to acquire players who fit their scheme.   Seattle, Pittsburgh and New England are historical examples of that.
