My guess is that Baalke told Ridley “we want you but we don’t want to lose the 2nd round pick. So we will give you a big contract right as the new league year starts.” Ridley probably said that he would do that but who knows what other teams might offer. Just like any FA, he’s going to get the most money as possible. If another team offers him more, he’s gone. Then WR becomes a massive need.

Dunno that I would even go that far. I would do nothing person-to-person until league year/tampering begins. Don't want to give the lawyas anything to get their claws into. Baalke has publicly stated that we want him here, and that's plenty to suggest that a deal will be offered in time.
