What I expect is to have a competent GM who can draft correctly and manage a roster correctly so the Jags don’t need to get into a bidding war.

Tacks made an offer that the Jags shouldn’t have matched. That’s not my point. My point is that he hasn’t drafted a WR for Trevor since he’s been here and boat loads of good ones have come out. The Oline is old (outside of Anton), pass rush is a problem still and so is the secondary. Trevor will once again have to carry this franchise. And what’s worse, a true building block like Josh Allen might actually play on the tag.

Gabe Davis is a very good WR2 but he’s been playing with an elite route runner in Diggs. Now he’s got Zay on the other side? No defense is out there worried about Zay Jones and Gabe Davis.

Just look at the the Jags drafts the last few years.  What was the plan? To get more linebackers? Nailed it!

Since he’s horrible at drafting, he has to patch through FA (second time in 3 years). They have 3 plays who I consider true building blocks (Trevor, Travon, Anton). That’s really bad.

Next year, Trevor gets his big contract and then what? They can’t spend in FA like this and they have to rely on good drafting and savvy pickups. Neither one of those things are in Baalkes wheel house.

Remember how everyone dumped on Baalke for taking a TE early last year after we franchise Engram? Or darfted Etienne when JRob just ran for a grand?

Think about how much we spent in FA the year we brought in Kirk, Zay, and Agnew. Realistically, why would you spend additional draft capital on the position, considering all the other needs on the team? 2021, New coach, thought we were in good shape, still, in the WR room. 2022, traded for Ridley. Question still stands, why are we going to leave bigger holes on the roster to keep adding WR to the competition?

This is the year. The FA guys we signed are getting to the pricier ends of their deals. We need to be ready for the eventuality of moving on. We started that with Washington last year. This is a suuuuuuper deep draft at the position, so we'll be well suited to blend value and future need to fill the depth chart.

Patching is PRECISELY what you want to do with FA. Unfortunately, a few years ago we used FA for the purposes of building and that limited our ability to leverage the draft for the foundation. I don't see anything we are doing in the present as tying our hands for using this draft (or future drafts) to maintain or develop the future. The patches allow us to aim more at value than at desperate need. Finding value will prevent the need to rely on FA in the future to find quality starting material.

I think this whole "we didn't darft WR so now we're in this pickle" is setting an unattainable goal for the FO. We had to spend to build. We are now shifting from making headlines on day 1 FA to using the darft to build and FA to patch.  How is that bad?

I don't really feel like we are in a bad place, and the draft could make things a bit brighter still.

I'm disappointed about a few decisions, but there's a long way between now and fielding the final roster.

I'm more interested in what our staff is going to do to fix the defense and improve the OL schematically than I am overanalyzing every roster move right now. Improving the talent is the bigger aspect of it, but pieces are still being added.

IDL is still a big need and I'd love to see another IOL piece added as well.

I think there's adequate talent coming together everywhere else for the most part. This offseason still has potential to work out well.
