Helicopter parents are ruining their kids by not allowing them to go and do what kids do. My mom rarely knew where I was specifically. I was somewhere on our property but she didn't have eyeballs on me all the time. Or I was at the library, a friend's house, or riding my bike around. She had a general idea of my whereabouts. I had to be home by a certain time or else. 

These days parents are spending tens of thousands of dollars on their houses to have open floor plans so they can see their kids at all times. They hover and smother their kids who end up having no self identity or personality. They probably lack intestinal fortitude. 

Then you have the kids who grow up in single parent homes who have no one to look after them. They are susceptible to being taken advantage of by gangs or predators. 

It's a terrible thing and there's no easy answer.

That's literally not why parents want open floor plans hahahaha

I'm 38 and I've never heard a single person/parent say that.
