I don't mind trading down, stockpiling more picks and then selecting Mack. But to sit at 3, and take Mack over Clowney and/ or Bridgewater, I think Caldwell would need his head examined.

I think Mack's success will depend upon how teams will use him

 

I think if teams use him as an all around LB, they'll get a good player.  My concerns about him dropping in coverage have been alleviated a bit.  One of the things that impresses me about him is he reminds me of Carl Banks in the way he holds up at the point of attack.  You don't see him on the ground too much.

 

What kind of disappoints me about him is, as a pass rusher, he doesn't appear to have a wide array of moves.  In his big game against Ohio State, he shows a very good initial hand jolt that gets into the pads of blockers and can get them off balance.  But that seems to be the limit of his repertoire. I'd like to see him string that initial jolt with some spin moves or an inside move.  While I do not question his effort, he seems to glide along.  He doesn't seem to "flash" across the screen.

 

Now the good news for him and any team that gets him is that he has seemingly mastered that hand punch and has the potential to develop counter moves and disengage.  If he does that, he'll be a very productive pass rusher.

 

If not, he'll be okay.

 

Clowney, OTOH, already has a wide array of pass rush moves, and you see flashes even when he doesn't get to the QB.
