I went to Costco and Publix yesterday after work. Spent close to $400 in total for bulk items and goods. It's just me, my wife and my four year old son, so, we don't break the bank too much. That usually gets me about three weeks worth of goods, dinners, snacks, [BLEEP] like that.
I also have a dog that runs me about $65 per month between his food and treats. I'll often by the Costco brand stuff to save a few dollars off the name brand stuff. On average, that's probably anywhere between $15 - $20 in savings just by doing that. Publix is still price gouging the [BLEEP] out of us from what I can tell. I like getting my deli meats and cheeses from them though. To save even more money, especially with me focusing more on my weight lifting this year, I have opted to start making protein pizzas and protein ice cream at home instead of buying, again, store brand or name brand options. You get a [BLEEP] ton of more bang for your buck by simply making it on your own from scratch. Another way I like to save is by portion control at dinner time. I'll fast a minimum of 16 hours per day or more. Thus, foregoing breakfast and lunch which stretches my groceries out. I learned this during covid and it's stuck with me since. The longer I can go without? The more I save in the long run. This is with me still nailing anywhere between 150G - 200G of protein per day and not exceeding more than 1,900 calories in a day diet wise. Inflation sucks. Not much you can do about it really other than control what you can personally within your own limitations and dietary needs. A crockpot and a smoker goes a long way though. Having the ability to dump some chicken or beef in a pot and just adjust the seasoning day to day with a side of rice, pasta or ready to go frozen vegetables can help you save as well. Smoked meat lasts longer when stored away. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. The subtle tongue, the sophist guile, they fail when the broadswords sing; Rush in and die, dogs - I was a man before I was a king." |
