I'm extremely curious to know what attributed to such a big swing in your tax filing.  There is no way that such a large swing should have occurred from year to year based on comparable taxable income and deductions.   Did an increase in pay result in being moved to a high tax bracket (e.g., 12% to 22%) or were there other contributing factors.  I know many people are getting screwed in the service industry these days because their tips are all credit card based (not cash) and recorded by the restaurants as taxable income, which they don't account for throughout the year.

If you do Turbo Tax or other electronic filing, it should give you a side by side comparison of the year to year differences.  Interested to know --- perhaps someone here can assist with planning for this years filing....
