Oh I agree.  Newsome should have no chance nationally, but it won't necessarily be about that.  It will be about who currently has sway in the Democratic party and who has a machine in place.  Usually it's political families that have such capabilities. Newsome is part of the Pelosi family.

Could be Hillary or Michelle as well, but Hillary is already unlikeable and has plenty of baggage on her own and Michelle has no business being President.  Betting odds are favoring Newsome to replace if anyone does.  Michelle probably has the best chance with leftists yearning for more of the Obama years.

Axelrod on CNN after the debate chastised the republican across the table about Trump being in trouble if the top of the ticket changed for the Dems.   Axelrod is a political hack as is most everyone at CNN and he was clearly saying whatever he could to save face after a terrible performance by his guy.  A lot of time between now and the election and anything can happen, but Trump isn't in trouble at all at this moment and looks to be cruising to victory.
