Part of the reason is that if he had been persuaded to retire, the prospective nominee would have been Kamala Harris, and she had worse approval ratings than he did, so she probably would have lost against Trump.  And there was no way the very race-and-sex-conscious Democrats would have been able to push her aside without a severe backlash from some powerful constituencies.  In fact, that's probably one of the reasons they are still not pushing hard enough to get him out of the race.

Here we are with two candidates, one of whom never took the trouble to learn anything, and the other who has forgotten everything.  Trump is so ignorant he just makes stuff up, and Biden is so far gone he can't remember how he started his latest sentence.  What a choice.  You have to laugh.  There's nothing else you can do.
