I was in the south Philippines when I was around 19yo for a few weeks (Yeah, a long time ago). All alone in a small village around 40 miles outside of Davao city, pretty much jungle in every direction. I hot wired a jeepney, and took all the kids in the village to the beach. An 8 year old kid brought a case of Sam Miguel beer for the trip. No ice, 90 degree beer. Who knew that was normal? Was a huge hit.  I almost killed a cow on the dirt road into Davao to purchase the PB&J ingredients. I'm not used to live stock running free in a jungle setting. I have so many crazy stories from that trip.  Have I mentioned this before? My memory is quickly fading as I get older.

What in the world were you doing in Davao? That's a no-no place for Americans now because of the Moros. My wife's family lives around Zamboanga City and she can't visit because she's married to an American. That pretty much guarantees a killing or kidnapping. Maybe it's calmed down within the last few years. Otherwise, Filipinos are a fun, laid back bunch. Sounds like you had the time of your life. I can't think of a better experience for a 19-year-old.
