Just because society needs kids doesn't mean people with kids suddenly know more about the future or how to run society.  Your mom always said having you didn't make her any smarter.

Maybe not know more, but on average, they likely care about the future more than childless parents whose last name will end with them. Not being cruel, just factual. I know a few myself who would admit to that theory.
