If that winds up being true, to me that indicates some level of foreign involvement.  Wasn't there similar short positions on airlines taken right before 9/11 that were traced back to Bin Laden or his associates?  If they trace those trades back to someone domestically, that's going to be a pretty big own goal and self outing by whomever opened the positions.

Just googled the Bin Laden thing and there apparently was no connection made to him or anyone else as I read the money made may have never been claimed so I must be remembering the rumor or conspiracy theory that was going around.  Industry rules have changed in the aftermath of 9/11 though so you can't open an account without a lot of identifying information.  Whoever placed shorts or puts on that Trump issue, if it actually happened, should be easy to identify.
