They have always tended to lean a little left. American Idiot pretty much took a jab at the Bush administration at that time, and, rightfully so. I haven't really cared much for this band over the years. Has little to do with politics though. Just burned out on hearing Billy Joel. They still have some hits that I like. The Dookie album is a classic. The ballad of Good Riddance, Wake Me Up When September Ends and Boulevard of Broken Dreams are good songs. I can say the same thing about other bands or artists though. I feel the same way about Beck, Coldplay, U2, Radiohead, Nickelback & Nine Inch Nails. Just burned out on hearing them or seeing anything related to them. Starting to feel the same way about some of my bread and butter Metal bands and Progressive Rock bands like Metallica and Tool. But, to stay back on topic with Green Day. I was typically under the impression growing up that they were very liberal and left leaning, lyrically and fashion/style wise. I'll tell you what threw me for a loop though, was Staind's singer, Aaron Lewis. He's actually fairly Conservative, Pro-American, Pro-Gun and has a couple of nice tunes that are country in sound. "Country Boy" in particular going back to 2011. Which was really interesting considering the political climate at that time. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. The subtle tongue, the sophist guile, they fail when the broadswords sing; Rush in and die, dogs - I was a man before I was a king." |
