The abuse of women in the Olympics and sports
|
This is regarding the OIC's decision to allow biological males to fight biological females in these Olympics. Since it's definitely political in nature I'm putting it here. The problem isn't confined to the Olympics but it is the big story right now and it speaks of a problem across all of sports.
Link The president of the International Olympic Committee has insisted the two gender-row boxers are women because it says so on their passports. “There was never any doubt about them being a woman,” said Thomas Bach as he defended controversial bouts involving Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting. However, as he hinted at Russian misinformation, Bach misspoke by wrongly denying the pair had differences in sex development (DSD). “This is not a DSD case, this is about a woman taking part in a women’s competition, and I think I have explained this many times,” he said, sparking confusion. The IOC then immediately issued a correction on its social-media feeds, saying he instead meant to say “this is not a transgender case”. Bach had been attempting to claim in definitive terms that the pair, who did not appeal two failed sex tests in 2022 and 2023, are women. “We have two boxers who were born as a woman, who were raised as woman, who have passports as a woman, who have competed for many years as women,” he told press gathered in Paris. “This is the clear definition of a woman.” Fairness-for-sport campaigners have been outraged by fights in recent days, with both boxers easing past their opponents. TIIC (the idiot in charge) is defending his decision by saying this, “What we see now is that some want to own the definition of who is a woman,” he said. “And there I can only invite them to come up with a scientific-based new definition of who is a woman. And how can somebody be born, raised, compete and have a passport, as a woman cannot be considered a woman if they are coming up with something, we are ready to listen, we are ready to look into it. “But we will not take part in a politically motivated cultural war. And allow me to say that what is going on in this context, in the social media with all this hate speech, with this aggression and abuse, and fuelled by this agenda, is totally unacceptable.” The bolded part is exactly what he is doing by allowing known athletes who have failed tests showing testosterone levels to be above acceptable limits to compete against women. You have to be incredibly stupid or willfully ignorant to think this is not a political issue. I'm 100% sure there is some hate and discontent being said but it's not hate speech when people are speaking out in plain terms about how wrong this is. I've never been in the position to have worked very hard and sacrificed much to be at the Olympics as an athlete but if I was told I'd be competing against a man I would step up to the starting position of whatever sport I was competing in and then take a knee. There is no way in hell I would give my competitor anything that could be considered a competition victory even if it looked like I sacrificed all for nothing. It's not nothing when you stand for what you believe in and for what is right. If anyone wants to argue about the right and wrong of this situation, don't. There is no argument.
