I’ve definitely done my fair share (and then some) of bashing Baalke. He has made many moves that I didn’t like but this off season, he’s done a good job. Signing Armstead/Morse and drafting BTJ were incredible. Darby and Savage will be good for the secondary.

However, just like he has done in the past, he can’t seem to figure out value in rounds 2/3. Frazier on the board and he takes Maason Smith. 

I hope the IOL holds up because, as this TC has shown, if Trevor has time….. BTJ gonna fly.

I don't know that Maason Smith won't end up being a great pick. I'm more ticked that we keep taking guys where we are already overloaded with acceptable drafted talent AND where we've signed free agents. We've taken 6 CBs the last three years along with 3 RBs. I find it hard to believe that we wouldn't be better off today if he'd taken a couple linemen in those spots than the guys they're going to cut next week. There's no reason that we're picking from guys like Hance, CVL, and Williams after 3 years while cutting Conner and soon to be gone guys like Hallett, Prince, Keilan Robinson, and maybe even Devon Duvernay other than obstinance.

A guard who is a lesser talent than Keilan Robinson but a greater talent than Blake Hance isn't reaching nor all that hard to find in the 5th round. It's making all your positions groups better by making modest improvements instead of none at all.
