The problem though is you are focusing on week 1 of the 2024 season. Keeping Foster over Hance is about much more than that. You know precisely what you were getting with Hance, and knew that was about the upper limit at that. Foster is a project, otherwise he'd have been gone early day 2.

We're not putting work into trying to unlock anything out of a guy like Hance. We're gonna be putting in work on unlocking Foster. If it fails, that's a decision for another day; until then, to not even try would be such waste that it would indeed put Baalke in some hot water. Give the investment a chance to accrue value.

Maybe Foster would clear waivers, maybe not.
I'm pretty sure Hance is eligible for the practice squad, and he is going to clear waivers though so it's not an issue.  We're keeping both players, most likely.

prezactly. And even if someone claims Hance to their roster, there's eleventy-threeve guys just like him floating around that we can call up in his stead.
