Positives and Concerns in a loss vs Miami

The defense played well but they were simply up against one of the best big play offenses in the League and eventually it showed. I'm concerned that they didn't get enough pressure on the QB, he had to many chances to either make the quick pass or to go through the progressions to the outlet guy. The fish lived in the flats today and the Jags didn't have much of an answer. Two plays changed this game and they happened to come back to back, otherwise it was a blowout. Once they lost the momentum they couldn't find a way to get it back, that's a concern but in week 1 there's still time to recover from this. This is the correct takeaway from the game imo. In my experience of regularly watching football over the past 30+ years, I think I've seen the sequence that played out against us played out hundreds of times before around the league. About to go up 3 scores, but in bam bam back to back plays you're instead up only 3 points. It's a mental toughness thing that the best coached and most experienced teams have a better time avoiding and we're perhaps not quite there yet, but we may be by the end of the year. Also, it's week 1 and I wouldn't put too much stock into any conclusions drawn from the game. I came away from that game extremely frustrated by the way that we lost it because I feel like the better team did not win the day, but we'll see how this plays out for the phins and Jags the rest of the year. |
