There was only one sustained drive by the Jags offense.
The Jags couldn't get off the starting block offensively that half.

Will BTJ become someone they look to (as much as they trust Kirk and Engram) to get drives started and to move the chains on 3rd and medium?

Probably.

Is it understandable that they aren't there yet in week one of his rookie year?

Yes.

I bet if they didn't have 4 or 5 quickly stalled drives in the second half he'd have had targets.

They doubled down on the run in the second half because it had been efficient in the first half and history tells us that often gets better, not worse, in the second half as the defense gets a bit gassed.
That did not happen. The Jags run game became ineffective and they stuck with it too long instead of changing strategy.

IMO, some of those first and second down runs from the second half may have been better off as passes, but there was also some garbage run blocking taking place as well that should have been better.

Pick your poison I guess.

Run game was efficient on 1st and 10+ yards.
...

This is what I'm saying to you - that ^ wasn't the case in the second half.

3 of their 5 drives in the second half began with a run of 2 yards or less on 1st down.

4 of the 5 second downs went like this:
2 yard run
1 yard run
0 yard run
-4 yard sack

The second half was not the same for the run game minus two attempts that broke loose, one of which ended in a turnover.

The offense laid an egg int he second half.
We can quibble about whose poor execution affected them most and whether or not other play calls might have ended with better execution, but they can't keep going to the well with the run when it isn't working.

Unfortunately they'll face a better secondary this week, so it isn't quite as simple as just letting Trevor air it out.
Thought I expect they'll cautiously attempt to ramp his production up this week anyway.
