Do you remember those Titans teams that always finished around the same records. Coaches can have ceilings and we hope this isn't the ceiling. The floor isn't low but the ceiling is definitely low if that's it.

So it becomes a debate on if you make a change in the hope you raise the ceiling or do you settle like the Titans did.

I agree with this for the most part.  I like to look at in terms of the lifecycle of NFL regimes.  Once the team has their franchise QB (which is the biggest hurdle) then the clock starts on the current regime:  Rebuild/compete/playoffs/deep in the playoffs, while hoping to reach the big game...  Now that process can be quick or long, and it's up to the owner at the end of the day to make sure he feels like it's going in the right direction, if not you go back to the beginning.  (It's gray, but that's the general gist.)
